Faculty of Law mourns Mr. Olu Awolowo

It is said that good trees do not last in the forest. The demise of Mr. Olu Awolowo, a lecturer in the Public Law Department of the Faculty of Law, OOU, has been described as removing a major pillar in the building of the faculty.

The lecturers and students of this faculty agree that a vacuum has been created when the shocking news was received on Monday, 9th of April, 2018. "It is among the least expected news you want to hear immediately after resumption. Some students couldn't deal with it as they didn't come to school the next day, we weren't expecting it", Muyiwa Odugbela, the CLASFON president, a 400l student said.

Speaking with Campus Mirror, Mr Shogunle Abayomi, the Head of Department Public Law, of the Faculty of Law, said, "we have lost a distinguished scholar, diligent researcher, outstanding teacher, a christened academician with impeccable integrity". He also said that his colleagues and students who have had the opportunity to take refreshing gulps from his deep ever fresh well of knowledge or wisdom can attest to the fact that a great person has been lost.

Prof. Idowu Adegbite, the HOD Private Law Department and immediate past Dean of the Faculty, depicted Mr Awolowo as a gentle, amiable, hardworking, team player and socialite who is very generous. He visualised his death as shocking, as he was not expecting that the cold hands of death will snatch him away at his prime".

Another student, David Aghe, 500l portrayed the hero as a "meticulous lecturer". "I have never felt so bad, the death of a lecturer who taught me the previous semester and supposedly marked my script is still a shock to me ", a 200l student said amidst tears. Mr Shogunle also revealed that the shock and demise of Mr Awolowo aided the delay in uploading results of the Public Law courses offered in the department last semester.

He further informed Campus Mirror that the late lecturer was bedridden for a while and first hospitalized in January, when he was discharged, he moved to his family house in Sagamu where he died". He said the burial will take place on the 26th and 27th of this month, with the wake-keep on 26th and incarnation on 27th.

As at the time of this report, many students and lecturers are yet to recover from the shock of the demise of Mr Awolowo who was gathered to be the grandson of Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
