A 200L level law student, Michael Oluwole Solanke has petitioned the recently constituted OOUSUG electoral Committee over what he described as "exorbitant rate" of the forms fees levied on aspirants in the forthcoming election.
Solanke claimed that the singular essence of the petition is to ensure that aspirants are not exploited unnecessary by the OOUSUG Electoral Committee.
"This may, perhaps be a turn over of the exploitation for aspirants in the hands of the Electoral Committee. I want to categorically assert that the prices slated for the forms are not only exorbitant but an exploitation at the oblivion of the innocent aspirants and so should be reduced", he noted.
Solanke categorically stated that the petition became inevitable following the recent official press release by Yusuf Adeeko led ECO stating the price of each post at the Central Executive Council. Solanke questioned the rationale for the price which range from #12,500 for the President, and #9, 000 for Sport Secretary which is the least post at Central Executive Council.
In addition, he noted that the #7,500 fees for senatorial post is extremely high as that will enable incompetent leaders to occupy the position in as much as they're ready to afford the fees.
"This and more factors are reasons why competent aspirants fail to contest thereby paving room for unskilled and adulterated leaders to contest and win", he said.
He added that the subsequent increment of compulsory SUG Constitution fee from #1,000 to #1,500 is greatly unjust and that apart, the ECO Chairman has failed to give any aspirant the constitution as at the time the petition was written. He further recommended that the price should be reduced to N7,000 for President's post, at most N5,000 for other executive posts and N4,000 for senatorial positions.
Campus Mirror gathered that the petition which was dated 15th May, 2018 was written through the Dean, Students' Affairs and directed to The University Vice Chancellor, The Deputy Vice Chancellor, The Chairman, Security Council and all Faculty Deans.
The electoral committee chairman is yet to respond to the petition as at press time.
