SUG Bows To Pressure, Reverses Decision On Keke Napep Fares


The OOU Students' Union Government has bowed to pressure from the Maruwa Drivers Association in the University main campus and have reversed its earlier decision to fix fare rates of Keke Napep at N30.

This follows a meeting held between the Maruwa union, Dean of Students' Affairs and the SUG last Friday.

The SUG Legal Director, Oshinnowo Tolulope (Tohlue Analyst) while speaking with Campus Mirror on the outcome of the meeting said the union has settled for N40 as transport fare within the campus.

"The agreement was that from car park down to motion ground is N30. Then from motion ground down to the faculty of law, arts and education is N40. From the school gate down to the car park is N50. Going to sport centre, admin, science, school hostel is also at the rate of N50.", he said.

"...the present price now has been fixed but we will still do everything we can to fight against it and make sure it comes down but presently, let us students especially have their changes at hand and make sure they are dropped at their destinations...", he added.

Recall that the SUG has recently fixed fare rates of Keke Napep at N30 except for Sport Centre and School Hostel which goes for N50. The move attracted protest from the Maruwa Drivers Union.

Engaging a representative of the school management on Friday, he spelled out words of advice to the student populace which he regards as an antidote to the matters arising and a way of making peace to prevail on campus.

"...students should listen to their leaders, they represented them well and they stood out as the voice of the masses. So we have to come to the level of an average student in fixing the prices.

"My advice is that the students should agree to our resolution today because it is going to make their transportation activities within the campus smooth, effective and it will not leak their purses.", he added.
