OOU Hosts Swansea University, As COLEMAN Boss Promises Employment To OOU Graduates

▪︎ PRO Optimistic About POST UTME, Says It Will Be Less Stressful

As part of commitment to better the lot of students and equip them with necessary skills to submerge challenges after school, the Olabisi Onabanjo University Management has gone into partnership with Swansea University, Wales, United Kingdom.

The partnership which was a result of the approval of a seed grant to OOU and Swansea University by the British Council few months ago, with a proposal to improve funding models in tertiary institutions and graduates Employability, has yielded an intervaristy workshop organised by Swansea University, which held from 23th to 25th July, 2019 for a meet up with top notch CEO'S of industries and a seminar to train the trainers in Abeokuta and Ago-iwoye respectively.

The event according to the University PRO, Mr Niyi Oduwole, included 'discussions mainly based on the needs of the industries and how the University can help, and equally what they can do for us, as well as training selected faculty members with an hindsight on how to improve the curriculum.

The partnership which has  started is expected to foster a symbiotic relationship between the University and Industries in Nigeria especially in the Agricultural sector.
Among benefits of this relationship is a pledge by the COLEMAN CEO, Otunde Kayode Onafowokan, to grant ten (10) student employment upon graduation and a "see things for yourself" tour to lecturers in the Electrical Electronics department.

In the same vein, Oduwole pinpointed that some industries have promised to set up farm on Campus in other to employ students while studying.

In the words of the expatriates, Prof. Paul Jones, the leader of the Swansea team who spoke on OOU radio, "the collaboration will help provide leadership training on the development of business with more effectiveness and efficiency for better growth".

Meanwhile, the University PRO, has promised that this year POST UTME exercise will be "less stressful". He expressed his optimism owing that "the New ICT building is ready and it has a capacity of 170 students coupled with existing ones.

"It should be less stressful", he affirmed.
