OOU Students To Pay N5000 For E-Learning

* SUG ignores Campus Mirror poll where 89% rejected paying for the facility

* DVC says "value is bigger than the money"

The Olabisi Onabanjo University Management, after a meeting with the Students' Union and Stakeholders has today, agreed to digitalize the University's lectures and classes.

The Meeting which was streamed live on Campus Mirror's Facebook Page focused on the introduction of the e-learning into the University system.

Speaking at the meeting, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Deji Agboola, who handled the procession reiterated the need for the University to meet other universities standards technologically in other to advance and compete globally.

Prof Agboola, who spoke excessively on the use and the importance of the Smart Boards, says, the boards with its multi functional design, will enable Recording, streaming of lectures, and bring ease to lectures material sourcing for both students and lecturers.

Speaking on the amount to paid by the Students, Agboola, explained that the "Value is bigger than the money paid", emphasizing that the"Money is to negotiate network providers in other have access to them", which will create a free internet connection to every student to access courses, materials and lectures in the School premises.

To further butress on the DVC's Speech, a spokesperson of the ICT said, "Every lecture that is going out of this University, you will have it on YouTube, Facebook and the School Website, incase you missed the class."

However, the emergence of this Innovation do not rule out class Attendance as Students would still be in the process.

The school management along with the students' body finally reached an agreement after a consensus that students should pay the sum of N5000 for E-Learning, which will begin during the rain semester and would subsequently be paid at the beginning of every session.

Although, a poll, weighing students reaction to this development was conducted by Campus Mirror.  While 11% voted in support of the idea, 89% voted that students should not be asked to pay an extra fee for the facility.
