UNILEVER AND UNICEF HOST CAREER SEMINAR FOR OOU STUDENTS

 Unilever, in collaboration with UNICEF and Olabisi Onabanjo University, organized a program on how to build and give students opportunities for their future. Before the commencement of the seminar, Mr. Albert Nukwo admonished the present students. He gave a short hint about the seminar and also provided room for a talent showcase. A few students were given the opportunity for spoken word performances and others, with prizes attached to them.

Nigeria, being the first country to collaborate with FUCAP, was noted for being ambitious, working with 20 universities in Nigeria. Fortunately, Olabisi Onabanjo University was chosen as the top choice of FUCAP, the Future X Campus Ambassador Program. Furthermore, he appreciated the effort of the students for attending the seminar and exposing themselves to scholarships and job opportunities.

The program started with an opening prayer by Jimoh Lucia Eniola, SOSSA General Secretary. Mrs. Zainab Ajadi addressed the students about the CV clinic. “A CV is a mental image of a person, to know if one is fit for the job they are applying for, to know if you’re skillful, which should specifically include: Name, Educational background, skills, and notable awards. A CV is a door opener, portraying who you say you are. Your CV also allows for greater insight, and finally, it sums up your whole career, leaving a long-lasting impression.”

Mrs. Zainab Ajadi also concluded by correcting a frequent error that students make: your CV should not be more than just two (2) pages and should include your work experience. Note that irrelevant information like age, skin color, and marital status is not needed.

Briefly after, Mrs. Aderonke Akinola, a UNICEF staff member, gave a short health talk about the cholera outbreak. Due to the news on cholera, she admonished the students to stay healthy and drink clean water. “Healthy you, in a healthy future.”

Dr. Reuben gave a final talk about data analysis, which lasted for almost an hour. During all these talks, the students were eager to move to the next item on the program, which happened to be the question and answer session.

Cash prizes donated by the student union were also given to a few students for their attentiveness throughout the seminar by answering certain questions.

Finally, Mrs. Zainab Ajadi came up again to address the students about choosing their path. She noted that the difference between a champion and a follower is how knowledgeable one can be and the difference one can make. She also gave the students the 3 Ps of life: priority, passion, and purpose, to impact knowledge.
