COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES EMERGE CHAMPIONS OF SUG FRESHERS' CUP 2024

By John Oyebode

The department of animal production, under the college of agricultural sciences has being crowned champions of Students Union Government(SUG) Freshers' Cup 2024 after defeating linguistics two goals to one at final.

The match took place today, July 12, 2024 at Olabisi Onabanjo University Sports Center. CAS drew the first blood through an own goal by linguistics goal keeper who was unlucky as the ball which he had initially claimed, slipped from his hands into the back of the net.

The game continued in that light, with CAS gaining much momentum as they dictated the tunes of the game on and off the pitch, with wild support from their fans as well. They kept knocking for a second goal which eventually came off Ayomide, who found himself in a 1v1 situation with the goalkeeper and did not hesitate to clinically put the ball past the goalie.

The first half ended two goals to nil, in favour of CAS. Coming into the second half, linguistics coach, who was later announced as the best coach of the tournament, urged his players to be more hungry in front of goal as he was not impressed with the first half performance.

The game still remained unbalanced, as CAS still had in retention, the upper hand they had in the first half due to the two goal advantage. Linguistics as well were being cautious of attacking their opponent excessively, as they feared they might concede another goal.

However, their centre forward, Dinero,  later came to linguistics rescue and pulled one back with a rocket strike which sent the incredible CAS goalkeeper on a full stretch with absolutely nothing to show for it as the ball got past him, into the back of the net.

The game eventually got more intensed as linguistics now had a cause to believe in themselves as they felt they could square up the duel. All efforts to get the equalizer before end of 90minutes, proved abortive as the resilient CAS side ensured they maintained their lead to the end.

CAS coach, Moses, in an interview with campus mirror sports correspondent, expressed his joy over the great feat his team achieved even though they were not really one of the favourites to win the competition. ‘It's kind of tough, being a long way coming, we never thought we are going to make it this far, i'm so happy to be here’ coach Moses said.

The match also had in attendance the SUG president, Oluwaseun Adeyemi Ogunmakinju popularly known as Enzaim in attendance and his entourage.
