INCLUSIVITY, TOGETHERNESS PROMISE NEARS REALITY AS ASCOM HOD'S CUP 2024 APPROACHES

By John Oyebode

The head of department cup of Association of Students' Communicators, OOU Chapter is set to take a new shape with inclusion of both male and female in the competition, which would start on Monday, July 15, 2024 at the university's sports center.

It'd be recalled that before Comrade Bello Muhammad Olasubomi was elected sport director of mass communication he promised to embrace inclusivity and togetherness if given power into the office. According to him, the inclusion of women in football was part of the major aim of the promise which is to enliven the spirit of oneness, unity and also discover talents.

The competition format for the male side  would be a knockout match as 300 level will face 100 level while 400 level will encounter 200 level. The winner of each match will square up to fight for the trophy on july 17, which is also a part of the activities planned out for Ascom week.

The female side will also undergo the same match format with similar fixtures as well. However, there's a slight difference in the number of players that'll be fielded. It's going to be a five aside tournament with each team presenting five players to start the match, instead of the  normal 11 players which make up the starting line up of football.

The vice president 1 of mass communication department, Honourable Seyi Gbangbayau Eriayo while speaking with Campus Mirror, considered the new development as an achievement for the department.

According to her, “To me it's an achievement for the department and also the administration. It'll be recalled that a new legacy was started from our administration.”

Honourable Seyi however hopes that the next administration will continue what they started and hopes the best team win the tournament.
