Meet Henry Fischel, the man who invented examination

IN the late 1800s, Henry Fischel, an American businessman and philanthropist, introduced the notion of examinations. China was the first country to adopt this idea on a national level, holding the world's first exam, the Imperial Examination.

Who is Henry Fischel and what is the reason behind this invention?

Henry A. Fischel (November 20, 1913 – March 20, 2008) was a professor emeritus of cultures at Indiana University. He was an influential figure in founding the Jewish Studies Program at Indiana University.

Why did Henry Fischel Invent Exams?

Henry Fischel invented the exam to test his students academically. When he was a professor at the University of Indiana. He always saw lenient students who believed that after the end of the year, they would pass to the next class without evaluation.

However, Fischel wanted to know whether what the students were taught was a mere waste of executive time and to also recognize whether the students were studying properly or not.

These concerns were the justifications why he decided to formulate an exam to review his students' aptitude.

Meanwhile, we can deduce that he did the best thing. Nowadays, students are wondering why they have to write exams, read, memorize, and, in the same vein, rewrite what they have read in a book. Most students are tired of the examination system.

To all students out there, Henry Fischel is the reason behind this examination struggle, however, find a place in your heart to forgive him. May his gentle soul of Fischel rest in peace.
