WHO IS PROFESSOR J.O.SODIPO?



 


Professor John Olubi Sodipo was a Nigerian philosopher who lived from October 15, 1935, to December 4, 1999. He attended Remo Secondary School in Sagamu, from 1948 to 1953, as well as the University of Ibadan (UI) from 1956 to 1960 and Durham University in England from 1961 to 1964. 

Professor Sodipo taught at UI from 1964 to 1966. Being the first Nigerian Professor of Philosophy, he lectured in Philosophy at the University of Lagos from 1966 to 1968, and from 1968 to 1982, he taught at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), where he was the first professor of African Philosophy and the first head of the Philosophy department. When Ogun State University (OSU), now Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), first opened in 1982, he became its first Vice-Chancellor.

Professor A. L. Mabogunje – Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Council

 Mr. N. O. Sotoyinbo –Registrar

Mr. O. O. Ogundipe (Librarian, University of Benin) – Visiting Librarian

Mr. S. B. Onigbinde – Deputy Bursar

Mr. A. O. Oyeledun – Deputy Director of Works.
