SUG CONDEMNS MGT. DECISION ON 200-LEVEL TUITION FEE INCREMENT

By Pelumi Ogundele

The OOU Student Union Government (SUG) has expressed disagreement with the recent decision by the university management to increase tuition fees exclusively for 200-level students.

The step taken by the management to raise the tuition for current 200-level students without prior notice is said to have breached the gentleman’s agreement made between the management and the 36th SUG administration, led by Senator Pizzle.

The memo reads in part: “This increase undermines the value of education, making it a luxury rather than a right and fostering inequality, as only affluent students can afford the increased fees. It also deters prospective students from seeking admission to our institution.”

The Union, however, advises all 200-level students not to make any payments at this time and to wait for further information.

"In light of this, the Students' Union advises all 200-level students not to make payment for now. Any student who makes a payment contrary to this decision will face disciplinary action from the Union.

"We stand united in our opposition to this increase and will continue to advocate for affordable, quality education," the memo reads.
