The Students' Union Government (SUG), during a meeting held on Wednesday, October 23, presented new proposed campus transportation fares, yet faced disagreement from the transport body.
According to the memorandum shared through the Union's official X page in the early hours of Friday, October 25, the meeting held to resolve the ongoing transportation fare dispute, did not yield a positive result, as the Union's stance remains that transportation costs must be affordable for students with frequent campus activities, without adding to the academic pressure.
The memo reads in part: "The transportation body's unilateral fare increase breached our agreement. The proposed fares (Oru: N600, Ago: N500) are excessive and burdensome for most students.
"The increase contradicts our previous agreement, which stipulates a maximum N50 increment subject review.
"The Union, however, proposed the following:
-Oru and environs: N400
Ago and environs: N300
The conditions for review will be due to a reduction in fuel price to N800/litre or increase to N1,600/litre."
However, the drivers rejected the proposal, making the Union place a restraining order.
"Drivers charging above the stated prices will be barred from school premises, refund will be demanded for the affected passengers, and disciplinary actions will be taken against non-compliant drivers," the memo reads.
