There is no doubt that university activities are not limited to the classroom; extracurricular activities like sports are essential, offering a space for students to bond, showcase talents, and stay active. Departments, faculties, and individuals in Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) have organized different competitions to unfold in the Rain Semester of the 2024/2025 academic session.
Here are 12 sporting competitions or events all OOUites should watch out for:
12. STESAN Sports Festival: Featuring Football (Male and Female), Basketball, Table Tennis, Board Games, 5-Aside (Represent your club). It will be a fun-filled day of thrilling sports competitions, exciting games, challenges, live music, entertainment, and delicious food/refreshments, as revealed by the organizers.
11. Ligue Des Campe Nes 2.0: It is a yearly sporting event hosted by the Faculty of Law; it involves different kinds of games like male football, female football, basketball, table tennis, e-football, and sack races.
This year's edition of the competition will commence on March 17, 2025, at the University's sports center "Estadio de Sun."
10. NASS Freshers' Cup: It is an anticipated competition organized for freshers in the Faculty of Science, to create a platform for budding talent, showcase their skills, compete fiercely, and experience the thrill of the game. The official date for the commencement of the competition is yet to be announced.
9. SOSSA Freshers' Cup: The Faculty of Social Sciences has organized a battle for supremacy among freshers in the eight departments that exist under the faculty. The battle begins on the 10th of March 2025, at the university sports center. Department involved include; Mass communication, Criminology, Political science, sociology, Economics, Psychology, Geography, and Library and Information Science (LIS).
8. NASS Dean's Cup: Beyond the thrill of competition, the Nigerian Association of Science Students (NASS) Dean's Cup is a celebration of sportsmanship, unity, and vibrant culture. It is a time when friends are forged, legends are made and history is written. It is set to commence on the 7th of April 2025, also at the University's Sports Center (Estadio de Sun).
7. FASA Dean's Cup: The Faculty of Arts Students' Association (FASA) Dean's Cup 2025 is an anticipated competition aiming to encourage the departments in the Faculty to compete against one another. Organizers say it will be a tough and competitive game. As of now the date for the commencement of the competition is still unknown.
6. Mass Communication's HOD'S Cup: it is a competition that will be coming up during the ASCOM week, precisely the month of May. According to the Association of Students Communicators (ASCOM) Sports Director, the Head of Department (HOD), the Cup will not only feature football, it will include games like tennis and ludo. The competition aims to promote sportsmanship in the Department of Mass Communication and will commence on May 23, 2025.
5. Provost Cup: It is a football competition organized by the College of Engineering and Environment Studies, Ibogun Campus, featuring eight departments that will square up to contest for the title. It will commence March on 13, 2025.
4. SUG Fresher's Cup: The Students' Union Government (SUG) of OOU has announced the upcoming Freshers' Cup scheduled to take place soon, creating an avenue for freshers to showcase their skills, teamwork, and school spirit. The competition will commence on March 24, 2025.
3. IBile Games 2025: Organized by the National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS-OOU Chapter), is aimed to promote cultural heritage and foster good relationships amongst students and indigenes of Ogun state. The competition will feature games like Ayo Olopon, Draft, Chess, Table-Tennis, Ludo, and Football. This year's edition will begin on March 10, 2025.
2. FLA: The competition is a yearly event organized by Football Lovers Association (FLA). As revealed by the organizers, the theme of this year's edition is “Beat the Heat.” The official date for the commencement of the competition is still unknown. Are you ready to witness the electrifying atmosphere of football?
1. CFL: The Champions Football League (CFL) competition is entirely different from the others mentioned above, as it adopts a league format. It gives players semi-experience of professional football, as there is room for player transfers, contract signing, and other rudiments that make up a professional football league. The first leg of the season has been played in the Harmattan Semester, while the second part will commence on March 18, 2025. The CEO, Nifesimi, confirms that CFL is known for drama, a battle on and off the field, high-level competition and the second leg won't be an exception. Will the winner be Warriors FC, Lightening, or Frontliner? Watch Out!
