Following a peaceful protest earlier today, residents of the OOU Developmental Foundation (DEF) Hostel have expressed their grievances over two weeks of power and water outages, blaming the situation on the Executive Director (ED) of the hostel rather than the university management.
The students who marched to the Senate Building and the Students’ Union Government (SUG) office, were addressed by the SUG President and the Chief Security Officer (CSO). During the meeting, the CSO acknowledged the students’ concerns, noting that the hostel had been previously inspected, and necessary repairs were recommended. However, students complained that while some adjustments were made, such as fixing fans and repairing doors, the work was either substandard or incomplete.
"They repaired the doors, but they needed full replacements. The fans they fixed don’t even work," a frustrated student stated.
To verify the claims, the CSO conducted an inspection and confirmed that some recommended adjustments had not been properly carried out. He immediately escalated the issue to the Vice-Chancellor (VC), making it clear that the failure was due to the Executive Director’s negligence, not the university management.
In response to the growing agitation, the VC is scheduled to visit the hostel this afternoon to personally assess the situation and ensure that necessary actions are taken. Additionally, the CSO assured the students that work on the needed repairs would commence immediately.
With the university leadership now actively involved, students remain hopeful that their demands will finally be met, and the hostel’s deteriorating conditions will be addressed.
