“FRESHERS' CUP IS GREAT BUT PARTICIPANTS MUST BE CAREFUL NOT TO DERAIL” – FAN

By Oluwatobiloba Adeosun

A football fan from the Department of Banking and Finance, Awal Oluwapelumi, has commended the Freshers' Cup, stating that it awakens sportsmanship in freshers but noted that participants must be careful not to derail from their primary purpose in the institution.

Oluwapelumi while conversing with Campus Mirror in an interview during the match on Friday, March 28, shared his view on the competition.

"Freshers Cup is a nice game, it awakens sportsmanship spirit in freshers but the problem is if freshers playing the game are not careful it can make them derail from their primary purpose in the institution, but it's a very nice game we do not know what will become of the players, most of them can become international players from the game,” he said.

Furthermore, he made known his displeasure about the registration process and advised the committee of the competition on what he feels can be done.

"I will advise if the committee can make the game well composed and unbiased; with what I witnessed today, the registration process is poor. It is difficult that we did not know if nonfreshers are mixed with freshers,” he added.

Meanwhile, based on current standings, 20

teams have automatically qualified for the next round of the competition after defeating their opponents in the opening stage, while 20 others are out of the competition.
