The Head Coach of the Department of Science and Technology Education (STED), Michael Awoderu, has expressed his anger over the poor officiating by the referee in their knockout match against HKHE.
Michael, while speaking with Campus Mirror at the post-match interview, explained why he was furious about the officiating of the match, which took place at Estadio De Sun, around 10:30am, despite winning 5-4 on penalty shootout after a 1-1 full-time draw.
“I was angry because of the bad officiating, the officiating was so bad. The opponents got a handball 3 times in their box, which was meant to be a penalty, but the referee didn't award the penalty, and I later got red carded,” he said.
Michael further stated that a penalty shootout is the least of his thoughts as he expected his team to win flawlessly.
“I expected more than this (penalty shootout win), I was not expecting us to head to penalty; I was expecting a flawless victory. We are better, it's not luck, it's hard work and consistency,” he added.
Meanwhile, STED Captain, Uloko Winner, also reiterated that their win was obvious and merited, based on teamwork and confidence.
“It was very very obvious we're going to win. The other team tried their best but their best was not enough for the best team in OOU.
Our win can not be owed to luck; it was work, teamwork, and confidence,” he said.
