“NO LIGHT, NO WATER, NO MORE SILENCE!” OOU DEF HOSTEL RESIDENTS PROTEST OVER TWO WEEKS OF HARDSHIP

Frustrated students of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) residing in the Developmental Foundation (DEF) Hostel took to the campus thoroughfare on Monday, March 24, morning, marching to the Senate Building and the Students’ Union Government (SUG) office in protest against a two-week-long power and water outage.

Chanting in unison, the protesters expressed their anger over what they described as gross neglect by the school management. Despite paying ₦122,000 for accommodation, the students claim they have been forced to rely on rainwater for survival and move to other hostels just to charge their phones and gadgets.

"How do they expect us to live like this? We paid our dues, yet we are suffering. No light, no water, and no response from the management. This is unfair!" one of the students lamented.

The protest, which disrupted normal activities around the Senate Building, highlighted growing tensions between students and the university authorities. Protesters insisted that they would not back down until a permanent solution was provided.

As of the time of this report, the university management has yet to address the students’ grievances, leaving many wondering how long the silence will last.
