The Student Union Government (SUG) Sports Director, Idowu Ayomide, popularly known as OBG, has made it known that the Union Freshers' Cup was shifted to establish full concentration on the competition.
Recall that the competition earlier scheduled to commence on March 24, 2025, has now been postponed to March 27, 2025, as communicated via a circulated post on the Union's X (formerly Twitter) page.
While speaking in an interview with Campus Mirror, in the late hours of today, March 23, OBG made it known that the game was postponed to also avoid a clash between other competitions and to give the participants extra days to prepare for the competition.
"There are departmental and faculty competitions going on, and the scheduled date for the competitions to end will clash with the SUG Freshers' Cup. The Freshers' Cup tournament was postponed because we wanted full concentration only on the competition.
"Also, information getting to me is that the freshers are yet to resume because of Ramadan, and I gave extra days for Freshers to prepare well for the game," he said.
OBD further revealed the measures to be taken in other to ensure the smooth running of the competition and also promised to release the match fixtures soon.
"We are yet to release the fixtures, and by the grace of God, the fixtures will be out soon. There will be a break in between the matches for the players to rest and continue the game. By that, the game will go very smoothly.”
