The Association of Students’ Communicators (ASCOM) goalkeeper, Akinsanya Benjamin, popularly known as Seyikanbayi, has kept the team in the Ibile Games 2025 after a die-minute penalty and rebound save against the Department of Statistics.

The Dynamo FC goalie, while speaking with Campus Mirror in the post-match interview on March 21 at the Estadio de Sun, analyzed how he was able to save the spot kick.

“Penalty is a mixture of many things: luck, mind games, and constant training. If you say it is luck, sometimes luck might not be on your side; if you believe it is constant training, sometimes luck might not also be on your side; it is just that in today’s match, I picked the right spot and mind games worked,” he said.

Recall that Seyi missed out on the first leg of the match and was replaced by the second-choice goalie, AZ, who put in a very good shift, which Benjamin confirmed to have kept him on his toes.

“I feel very happy because I was not around for the first leg, and my substitute was the one who mounted the post, he did very well. I was thinking if I did not do well today, I might lose my shirt to him, and that was extra motivation for me,” he added.

Meanwhile, Statistics leveled things up on aggregate through a fantastic free kick from their center-back, Jude, before Fadar restored the deficit from an eagle-eyed pass from Subomi, leaving him in a 1 v 1 position with the opponent’s goalie before firing past him, into the back of the net.

The match ended 1-1 in favour of Mass Communication, who advanced to the next stage of the competition on a 3-2 aggregate.
