Students of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) have been advised to tread carefully before making any payment for a hostel being advertised as “Crown Girls’ Hostel” at the university’s Permanent Site.
The warning follows a statement issued by the OOU Students’ Union Government (OOUSUG) on September 27, clarifying that the hostel has not been approved, endorsed or recognised by the university or the Students’ Union Government.
According to the Union, students should not make any financial commitments based on the impression that the hostel is affiliated with OOUSUG.
While the Students’ Union’s statement does not by itself establish that the advertisement is fraudulent, it raises concerns about the hostel’s claimed affiliation with the university.
Students looking for accommodation are therefore advised to verify the approval and status of any hostel directly through official university or Students’ Union channels before making payments.
For now, students are encouraged to exercise caution and avoid sending money to the promoters of the advertised hostel on the assumption that it is an OOU-approved or OOUSUG-affiliated accommodation.
The Students’ Union’s warning remains the basis for this report, and students are advised to rely on verified information as they make accommodation arrangements.
