Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) has emerged champions of the Gateway Tertiary Institutions Games (GATIG) ’26 Female Football Competition after defeating Tai Solarin Federal University of Education (TASFUED) 2–0 in the final.
The Gateway Tertiary Institutions Games is a multi-sport competition that brings tertiary institutions across Ogun State together to compete and showcase sporting talent. First organised in December 2004, the games have grown into a platform for student-athletes to compete at the state level, build experience and attract attention for their sporting abilities. The 2026 edition, the seventh edition of the games, featured events including football, basketball, volleyball, athletics, chess, table tennis, tennis, taekwondo, badminton and Ayo.
Representing OOU as the OOU Tigress, the team was part of the university’s sporting contingent at the Gateway Tertiary Institutions Games
The Tigress put up a strong performance in the final, keeping TASFUED from finding the back of the net while scoring twice to secure the championship.
Mide opened the scoring for OOU, giving the Tigress the lead and putting the team in control of the game. Captain Temi then doubled the advantage from the penalty spot, converting the opportunity to make it 2–0.
Despite efforts from TASFUED to get back into the game, OOU held on to its lead until the final whistle, completing a 2–0 victory and securing the female football title.
For Captain Temi, the final was a memorable one as she not only led the team on the pitch but also contributed directly to the victory with the second goal of the match.
The result caps off a successful campaign for the OOU Tigress at GATIG ’26 and adds another sporting achievement to OOU’s participation in the games.
With the final whistle, the Tigress sealed their place as the female football champions of the Gateway Tertiary Institutions Games ’26, bringing the title home to Olabisi Onabanjo University.
